Stone Garden

Some people opt for a stone garden instead of a regular garden. Stone gardens substitute different sizes of rocks for water and foliage. Generally the stones are stacked or set up in a pattern.

Many stone gardens hat people get nowadays are modeled after the Japanese gardens that feature a lot of rocks and gravel. One of the favorite effects in a rock garden is to make ripples in the fine gravel with a rake. This is supposed to simulate the ripples in a body of water.

If you are just looking to create a beautiful scene with rocks, this is easy to do with a little planning. If you want to create a traditional stone garden like the Japanese have, you will need to do quite a bit of planning. You may even want to get a book on the subject or consult with a professional.
